Get Commando Fit

How’s that new years resolution to get fit and healthy going?

It’s about this time every year that most new years resolutions get broken. But if you are looking to get back on track and want to get fit, lose weight, build strength or just lead a healthier lifestyle read on because this one is for you.

Most of you probably know Commando Steve from the Biggest Loser, where his tough love, no excuses style of training whipped the contestants into shape. What you may not know is Commando Steve can now help you get results with his new 13 week GetCommandoFit program.

There’s a few programs out there now and I have tried two of the other popular programs. Without naming names one was an 8 week program mainly focused on changing the way you eat. The other was a 12 week program which concentrated on the combination of both balanced meals and an exercise plan.

So what makes this one different?

I’ve had the opportunity to have a look at the GetCommandoFit program and was quite impressed by a few things. Firstly as a designer (that’s my real job when I’m not blogging, and incidentally my husband is a web developer) I really liked the layout of the online program. It’s easy to login and navigate around. So what? you might say, well if the program is difficult to use then you aren’t going to get the most out of it, are you?

The Get CommandoFit program is 13 weeks and includes:

  • weekly meal plans
  • weekly workout plans
  • motivational videos from Commando Steve

There’s also an online community (forum) where you can meet other program participants. I find these are really good in helping you keep motivated and committed. The program also has a whole heap of resources – nutrition, recipes etc.

You don’t have to do it alone.

If you’re not a loner like me 🙂 you can form (or join) a squad to do the GetCommandoFit program as a team. This is a great idea for sport teams or like-minded friends who can cheer each other on.

Never done a workout? No worries there’s something for everyone?

The other thing I liked was it doesn’t matter who you are, whether you’re a couch potato or an elite athlete, this program has something for everyone. GetCommandoFit has four levels:

Get Active will help you ease back into an active healthy lifestyle. You don’t need any exercise equipment for this one, so it’s perfect for those looking to make that first step.

Get Fit is for those with some level of fitness and the workouts require only dumb bells and your own body weight. This one is my pick, perfect for mums and dads wanting to get back into shape (yes please!)

Get Fit Intermediate takes Get Fit to the next level. You should have been working out for a few months and be comfortable with exercise equipment to take this on.

Get Fit Advanced is not for the faint hearted, this one’s for athletes, trainers…you get the idea.

Want to know more? Let’s ask the man himself….

After looking at the GetCommandoFit program I asked Commando Steve some questions about the program and here’s what he said…

 

Me: Hi Commando, most people know you from The Biggest Loser series. You now have your own 13 week program available, GetCommandoFit, for the general public to participate in. Can you tell me what motivated you to create GetCommandoFit and what makes it different to the other programs out there?

​Commando Steve: The motivation and inspiration behind GetCommandoFit was the ability to reach people who didn’t or don’t have the means to train with me on a regular basis, time is critical in what I do and I cannot be everywhere at one time. What separates us from the rest is the way in the way approach our nutrition and training. It’s completely unique to GetCommandoFit.

 

Me: I’ve noticed your program doesn’t count calories. Most people associate weight loss with calories in, calories out. GetCommandoFit works on ‘units’ of food. Can you explain why you don’t concentrate on calories?

​Commando Steve: Counting calories from our experience can lead to people forming bad habits, you can count calories and still be eating an unhealthy diet, Units focuses on a balanced intake of the 3 macro nutrients: ​​protein, carbs and fats. ​

 

Me: Following on from that, what’s more important diet or exercise? Do food and exercise go hand in hand for weight loss and fitness? Is it enough to eat well and do limited exercise or exercise a lot and not eat so well?

​Commando Steve: Counting calories from our experience can lead to people forming bad habits, you can count calories and still be eating an unhealthy diet, Units focuses on a balanced intake of the 3 macro nutrients: ​​protein, carbs and fats. ​

Ensuring your diet is sound is the first port of call, it strengthens the foundation upon which everything else is built, training is a close second and ensures people burn excess energy, increase lean muscle mass and metabolic rate, improve neural response and overall health and well being. ​

 

Me: I would assume most people will undertake GetCommandoFit to lose weight? Over the 12 week period how much can people expect to lose?

Commando Steve:For those looking to lose weight it’s about being realistic, 1kilo a week is fantastic, some may not manage that and others ​may smash it out of the park, commitment and discipline play a major role in each persons success.

 

Me: Motivation and commitment is key to success in almost anything. How do you motivate participants during the 12 weeks of the GetCommandoFit program?

​Commando Steve: We have implemented the Commando Fit Core Values, they provide the Commando Fit Community with a set of guide lines and values live by and fall back when times get tough and they start to loose sight of their goals.

 

Me: Like most working mums I am time poor. Is GetCommandoFit achievable for those with a super busy lifestyle?

Commando Steve: Yes, we provide a step by step plan week by week, the preparation and execution falls on the shoulders of the recruits, it’s about conscious living, understanding what you do on a regular basis is either benefiting or hindering you.

 

Me: Your recipes look great and most seem to be things my whole family would eat. Is it easy to cook the individual meal plan you provide, particularly dinners, for the whole family?

Commando Steve:Yes, a lot of time has been spent by the team to ensure the meals are easy to prepare and taste great, the feedback from the first mission was amazing and we now have even more fantastic recipes.

 

Me: Finally more of a question for me, I am a member of a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) gym and I do a session 5-6 days a week (each session I will burn between 450-600 calories). If I was to do the GetCommandoFit program would this be enough exercise or would you recommend I also do the workouts you provide?

Commando Steve: This depends on which program you choose, Get Active is about re establishing functionality with the primary focus on nutritional habits, Get Fit prepares the body for more intense rigorous exercise and intermediate and advanced will definitely test your steel.

    I want to get commando fit because for the past 5 years I have been buying gym/fitness memberships but have been making up excuses as why I shouldn’t go. Also diabetes and heart problems run on my fathers side of the family and most of that side of the family die before they hit 50. I want to be the one that changes that.

Its important he grows up knowing how to live a happy and healthy life style and at the moment I am not healthy. I need to lose about 40 kilos to be healthy and a great role model for my boy. He is my world and he needs a healthy happy life.

    I want to GetCommandoFit… Everyday I wake up and my body tells me that I have to do something to make myself feel better. My head ensures my body that something will happen soon. Bu the truth is that soon has been coming for many years now.

    I know that the most difficult step in any process is the initial one. So by entering this competition I am taking that first step and promise myself to maintain he desire to commit to the changes i need.
